You know that a dream is big enough when people start laughing at it. I have much come to the realization that no matter how big or small your dream is, people will often criticize and doubt it. They’ll look at you and laugh. Maybe they’ll laugh on the inside and other times they will laugh in front of you. Then, there are times where people will talk behind your back.

That’s good. It means that you are being totally unrealistic with yourself. Your dreaming something that should hardly be possible. That’s not a bad thing but you’ll start to believe that it is if you listen to the skeptics for too long.

The skeptics will tell you that it’s not worth your time. They’ll ask you why you would spend years working on a dream while making virtually no money. The skeptics will often remind you that only 1% every truly make it into what you are trying to do. But guess what?

The skeptics are absolutely right. The dream that you are dreaming is way too big. On paper, you stand virtually no chance. There’s more. What do you think the critics and haters said to the current 1% living out their dream? They said the same exact things.

So next time you hear a critic, just remember there are people who achieve their dreams. The way I look at it is with this simple question. Is God not big enough to help you accomplish that dream? I once heard a line say that if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain move from here to there and it will be done. How much faith do you have in your dream?

On top of the world

That’s the question you have to ask yourself. Another question you have to ask is whether or not it’s worth the sacrifice, because if it’s not, then you might as well give up on it now because the challenges that come with your passions are incredibly difficult. They might suffocate you if you don’t have the will power to see it through. But it can be done. I swear to you it can.

Remember this too. If the road of a dreamer was easy, then everyone would be doing it but it’s not. This is not meant to discourage you but to give you the facts and to encourage you that you can do it. I have faith that anyone reading this can accomplish their goals and dreams if they put their mind to it. You have to have self-belief and you have to be your number one fan. If you’re not your own number one fan, then nobody will ever truly take on that role.

On this day, have it in mind that you can accomplish your goals and dreams. Listen to the critics and let them inspire you. Remember that the critics are on the sidelines for a reason while you play out the game.

So now you have the option to choose for yourself. What’s it going to be? Are you going to run away from your dream for fear of failure or are you going to dive in? What’s the worst that can happen? If it doesn’t work, at least you can say that you tried.

I believe in you, so now believe in yourself….

In my opinion, it’s not always the best idea to feel you have to share your dream with anyone. They may not be able to take it all in. They may not be able to include any positive thoughts about it into their model of the world. They may not be able to achieve their dreams, so certainly don’t want to see you succeed at yours. They may just not care. They may be too busy tending their own dreams to have time to hear about yours. Dreams are fragile, especially in the early stages. They need a lot of TLC. Being dashed and poked at only injures them. I wouldn’t get up on the roof and shout out a dream I might be having until I was well on my way to achieving it; not even then. Yes! There are many “achievers” on this planet. I suspect they spent most of their time just doing it. When we accomplish our dreams, they are there for all to see. No words necessary!

    1. Yeah I think you’re right. It’s definitely better to keep dreams to a limited number of people, if that. You’re also right about achievers. No words are necessary when we achieve. But I also believe that sometimes it can be impossible to limit sharing your dream because people can physically see you working on it. So in that case it would be really difficult for people not to find out and when that happens you tend to receive a lot of critics! Thanks for the thoughts, good stuff!

Personally…I would only half mind the critics. Critics get the word out, and people listen. People in turn makes up their own minds. Now, you have listeners, which could become your big moment to set the record straight. Who might get shut down now? If you’ve played your cards right…those gosh darn critics! This my good man comes from an optimist. What the heck do I know???
